Presence of the Past – Fanal Forest
Madeira, 2025

Presence of the Past examines how memory is embedded within landscape and material. Developed in Fanal Forest, the work approaches the environment as a site of accumulated time, where form, atmosphere, and surface carry traces beyond the visible.

The series consists of 14.5 × 9 cm lith prints produced on expired bromide paper. Instability within the material - fogging, staining, and chemical irregularities becomes integral to the image, allowing the surface itself to act as a carrier of memory.

Figures appear intermittently within the landscape, not as subjects but as structural elements, dissolving into their surroundings. The work moves between image and object, where boundaries between presence and absence, figure and ground, remain unresolved.
